Church Music Ministry
Program Intro

What does it looks like to faithfully apply scripture to music ministry?

Develop a deep and broad understanding of worship and music’s role in it, drawing upon long traditions while envisioning what music means for contemporary life and worship in a variety of settings. Redeemer’s Church Music Ministry program brings together Scriptural inspiration, creative endeavour, and service to the church and broader society.

Church Music Ministry is a Bachelor of Arts degree. It is offered as an honours major.

Quick Links

Right from the start, you will dig into a wide selection of musical literature, the principal eras, genres, and cultural sources — including and especially worship music, from past to present, in its many genres.

Learn the skills, habits, and practices that will prepare you for a lifetime of serving people and the church through music. Applied music lessons, ensembles, and practice in composing and designing worship services provide opportunities to develop as a leader in the church and other ministry settings.

Church Music Ministry The Core

The Core Curriculum is a set of 10 courses that every student takes. The courses are woven through every major and get you to think deeply and broadly about what you’re studying. Think about it this way…

  • Worship leaders have a deeper sense of beauty when they ground themselves in the narrative of Scripture.
  • Musicians who understand marketing trends and are effective collaborators are more successful in their business ventures.
  • Composers can communicate with poignancy when they understand the psyche of their audience.

Learning
Experiences

In the Classroom

Learning spaces are designed with the unique needs of the music program in mind such as sound-proofing, acoustics, staged seating, instruments and other equipment. This provides a conducive learning environment for courses like Design of Worship, Arranging and Composing, and Philosophy of Music in the Church.

Beyond the Classroom

Participate in ensembles that as part of the experience, lead on-campus Chapel services, furthering your experience in liturgy, the church calendar, service planning and rehearsing, song selection, hymnody, and contemporary worship music.
